The Old Jewish Cemetery Lipník nad Bečvou is a cemetery in Lipník nad Bečvou (German Leipnik an der Betschwa ) in Okres Přerov in the Olomoucký kraj region in eastern Czech Republic .

The Jewish cemetery is south of the city center. It is surrounded by a low stone wall. There is no information about the exact number of tombstones on the cultural monument .

history

In 1567 the Jews of Leipzig bought a piece of land south of the city center for a cemetery. It was documented until 1883. In total there were around 1500–1800 gravestones here.

A new cemetery was laid out in 1883 next to the old cemetery .

In 1942 the old cemetery was destroyed by the German Wehrmacht . After the war , around 160 complete tombstones and 20 tombstone fragments were brought to the new cemetery and placed there on the west side of the south wall. The area of ​​the old cemetery was transformed into a park with a children's play area and volleyball court .

After 1989 the old cemetery was completely renovated. The surrounding wall was almost restored to its original shape and the tombstones that were still preserved were placed in their original place.
