The Alte Schlossteich , also called Plankenwarther Schlossteich , is a small still body of water in the municipality of Sankt Oswald near Plankenwarth in Styria. It is used as a fishing pond.
Location and geography
The Alte Schlossteich is located in the southern part of the cadastral municipality of Plankenwarth, which belongs to the municipality of Sankt Oswald bei Plankenwarth . It is both fed and drained by the Mutschbach . The pond is 135 meters long and around 64 meters wide. In the northern part of the pond there is a small island. A little to the northwest there is another, approximately 0.1 hectare, unnamed fish pond.
Description and history
The old castle pond and the neighboring pond are used as fish ponds and in winter by the local ice rifle club for stick shooting . There is a log cabin with a restaurant right by the castle pond.
The water in the castle pond was last drained in 1998 in order to re-stock the pond with fish.
fauna
The use as a fish pond is reflected in the fish species living in the pond. The pond is home to carp ( Cyprinus carpio ), grass carp ( Ctenopharyngodon idella ), pike ( Esox lucius ), catfish ( Silurus glanis ) and a single spoonbill ( Polyodon spathula ).
