Old Bavaria site

The old Bavaria site is located in the Hamburg district of St. Pauli . It is south of the Reeperbahn . On the site which was to 2003 beer Astra brewed. From June 18, 2004, the new Hafenkrone district was built there.

In operation from 1863–2003

In 1863 the city of Hamburg leased the site to the Actien brewery. In 1918 the brewery bought the site from the city. In 1922 the Actien brewery merged with the Bavaria brewery to form the Bavaria-St.Pauli-Brauerei . In 1994 the brewery was bought by the beverage company Brau und Brunnen . In February 1997, the management level at Brau und Brunnen decided to give up the Bavaria location in Hamburg. In order to preserve the location, the brewery was transferred to municipal ownership from January 1 to December 22, 1998. The Holsten brewery then acquired the facility. It got direct and aggressive with the poster campaign “Astra. Mind? ”Started. As the brewery took up more and more space, brewing was stopped in 2002 and the factory closed in 2003. In May 2001 a Hamburg investor group around Wilhelm Bartels bought the “Bavaria site”.

Harbor crown

On the 28,000 square meter site, the so-called "New Harbor Crown", between Hopfenstrasse, Zirkusweg, Bernhard-Nocht-Strasse and Davidstrasse , a new quarter was created on six building plots. Apartments, commercial space and a hotel were built in the new quarter.

Construction site 1

The Empire Riverside Hotel forms the western part of the new harbor crown . It is a 90 meter high skyscraper with 20 floors and 328 rooms, which was designed by the architect David Chipperfield . The foundation stone was laid in November 2005, the topping-out ceremony took place in April 2007 and the hotel was opened on November 1, 2007. The construction costs amounted to € 65 million.

Construction site 2

The Holland House, a six to nine story high building, is located on construction site 2. The 4,000 m² office space and a roof terrace were designed by the Dutch architects Döll.

Construction site 3

This is where the HANSA building cooperative's brewing district was built. In this part of the new harbor crown, € 24 million was invested in order to create 120 apartments and a total living space of 12,000 m². Steidle + Partner from Munich designed the five- and eight-story buildings. The two- to four-room apartments have a size of 68 to 130 m² and are rented in the cooperative model.

Construction site 4

This building site is divided into two units.

HSH Nordbank has bought construction site 4a and is building an eight-storey building there called the Bavaria Office . In this building there are 9,000 m² offices and 1,500 m² a supermarket, two bakers and a pharmacy.

130 apartments in five to seven-storey houses were built on site 4b. The total living space of 11,900 m² is divided into units from 43 to 115 m² and 4 commercial spaces.

Construction site 5

The Atlantic-Haus with its three eight-story buildings and a 21-story high-rise forms the fifth section. Quantum Immobilien AG and HSH N Real Estate invested € 100 million in the complex planned by the architects Herzog und Partner. The 34,000 m² office space is used by advertising agencies, among others.

Construction site 6

The DWI tower designed by the architects Engel and Zimmermann (Frankfurt am Main) forms the center of the harbor crown . The designer Tobias Grau has set up 13,000 m² of office space on its 18 floors. DWI Grundbesitz GmbH has invested 45 million euros in the 60 meter high tower.
