Nikolaus Jagenteufel

Nikolaus Jagenteufel (born April 26, 1526 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † March 25, 1583 in Weimar ) was a German Lutheran theologian and educator.

Life

Jagenteufel was born as the son of the deacon of the same name in Königsberg, studied at the University of Wittenberg from September 1544 , was briefly in Königsberg again in 1546 and returned to Wittenberg, where he obtained the degree of master's degree on August 20, 1549 . After completing his studies, he returned to his hometown, where he became an archipagogue at the local pedagogy in 1550. In 1552 he became professor of dialectics at the University of Königsberg and in 1553 also took over the professorship for mathematics.

Knowledgeable about theology, he became a pastor in Löbenicht in 1560 and a member of the Samland consistory as an assessor . After he was rector of the university in Königsberg in the winter semester 1555/56 and in the summer semesters 1561 and 1565 , he had to leave the city as a supporter of Andreas Osiander due to the denominational disputes over the Osiandrian quarrel on November 26, 1567. He went with Johannes Freudenhammer and Joachim Mörlin to Paul Eber in Wittenberg and was sent to Annaberg in 1567 as Ephorus of the Inspectorate and Superintendent .

In 1574 he became superintendent in Meissen , in 1576 he took part in the Lichtenberg convent, where he took part in the drafting of the concord formula . He was present at the Torgau Convent in 1576 and participated in the drafting of the Torgau Book . From 1577 he participated in the introduction of the concord formula in the Electorate of Saxony and in 1581 was appointed court preacher and general superintendent to Weimar, where he died.

Apart from a few funeral sermons, no major works by him have yet been made accessible.
