history

The beginnings of the HANSA building cooperative go back to October 6, 1925. Seven women and men from Hamburger Hochbahn AG met at the time with the declared aim of addressing the housing shortage in the Hanseatic city . In a bar in the Rothenburgsort district they founded a cooperative building association .

The first years were marked by considerable personal contributions and the saving of the cooperative shares. As a result, the housing stock grew steadily through new construction and mergers. And so, at the beginning of the Second World War, the “non-profit building cooperative HANSA eGmbH Hamburg” already had 805 apartments, eleven shops and five garages. Of these, not even every second apartment and only two shops were intact in 1945.

HANSA and its members set about rebuilding with vigor and on their own : 20 years after the end of the war, the stock had grown to 5,171 apartments and by 1988 it had reached a temporary high with almost 8,000 units. During this time, the savings facility was founded and the first major modernization work was carried out.

Organization of the cooperative

The highest body of the cooperative is the representative assembly . The 131 representatives are elected every five years by the members of the cooperative. The representatives are responsible for a. the election of the supervisory board. The supervisory board appoints the members of the management board . You represent the housing association and are responsible for the management . The representatives are regularly invited to meetings and once a year to the meeting of representatives with the supervisory board and management board and are informed about the cooperative. Once a year there is a tour of the existing housing stock.

HANSA currently has seven neighborhood get-togethers with a wide range of offers. In terms of the cooperative principles of self-help, self-administration and personal responsibility, the voluntary commitment of the members plays a special role. The aim is to actively shape the community through exchange and communication, from neighbors for neighbors.

Neighborhood fund

For the 90th anniversary of HANSA, the Management Board and the Supervisory Board decided to set up a neighborhood fund. It is endowed with 30,000 euros per year - money that is not used for regular financing, but is intended to help implement small projects for the community. In the years that followed, 30,000 euros were made available and a total of 43 member projects were funded. Funding will continue in 2018 and 2019. At the same time, the fund wants to support voluntary work in the HANSA neighborhoods and strengthen neighborhoods. The decision on the allocation of funds is made by an allocation committee made up of seven elected representatives.
