The old Catholic parish church Refrath of the parish stood in today's Alt Refrath. In 1846 the church became independent. In the same year the old pastorate was established. The aim was to offer the pastor a suitable apartment. It lost its original function as early as 1869 because the pastor could no longer fulfill his obligation on site. In the meantime a new church had been built in the center of Refrath . As a result, the parish had to move to a new pastorate .
Officially, the old building was no longer a pastorate. It was auctioned. The Berzelius company bought it for 950 thalers as a director's apartment for the head of the former Bensberg-Gladbach zinc smelter . Later it went into private hands.

The house was entered on February 24, 1989 under No. 4 in the list of architectural monuments in Bergisch Gladbach . It was named Monument of the Month in October 2014 .
