VfB Heidelberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The VfB Heidelberg was a football club from the city of Heidelberg in Baden-Wuerttemberg . The club only existed under this name from 1919 to 1928 and then until 1947 as 1. FC Heidelberg 05 , before joining TSG Heidelberg in 1878 as the football department , which in turn became the Heidelberger SC, which still exists today, in 1968 .

history

VfB Heidelberg was created in 1919 through a merger of 1. FC Viktoria 1905 Heidelberg , FC Neuenheim 02 and Germania Heidelberg . The fact that one wore the addition 02 at times was due to the founding year (1902) of the oldest merger member FC Neuenheim 02 from the Heidelberg district of Neuenheim . Ironically, the district association left the merger project after the 1919/20 season, after the team had been relegated after just one season from the first-class Odenwald district league , in which they faced teams such as SV Waldhof Mannheim , VfR Mannheim , SV Darmstadt 98 and Viktoria Aschaffenburg was allowed to compete. In 1921 he returned to the Odenwald district league , where VfB was allowed to compete against the future German champions from 1949 and Herberger Club VfR Mannheim in the 1921/22 season . While VfR Mannheim won Division II undefeated, VfB Heidelberg had to accept relegation again after only one season.

In 1927 the FG Union Heidelberg joined the VfB Heidelberg, but broke away from the merger in 1928. Subsequently, VfB Heidelberg was renamed 1. FC Heidelberg 05 (after the founding year of the 1919 VfB merged 1. FC Viktoria , which in turn was formed in 1905 from the merger of Hermannia and Britannia Heidelberg ). The club's independent history ended in 1947 when it joined TSG Heidelberg as the football department in 1878 .

Connection to Dresdner SC

In 1952 the football department left TSG and joined the Dresdner SC Heidelberg , which was founded by fans of the Dresdner SC living in the region . The Heidelberger SC, which still exists today, was created in 1968 through a merger of this association with the Free TS Heidelberg . Due to the work of some Dresdeners during the division of Germany at Heidelberger SC and its predecessor clubs, there is a friendly connection between Dresdner SC and Heidelberger SC.
