Old pumping station (Bremen)
The old pumping station in Bremen - Findorff on Salzburgerstrasse and Bayernstrasse is a decommissioned wastewater pumping station that has served as a museum for the technical and cultural history of wastewater disposal in Bremen since then . In 1995, the main pumping station I with the old pumping station (the machine house), a hall and the residential building and wash house were placed under monument protection.
history
From 1915 to 1994, the wastewater from the city of Bremen was pumped from the main pumping station I, today the old pumping station . The historically valuable facility was built according to plans by the Bremen Building Authority from 1913 to 1915 at the turn of the century in the style of New Objectivity with Baroque elements.
The pumping station handled two-thirds of the Bremen sewage that was pumped into the Weser ; At first only after rough pre-cleaning, later through the sewage treatment plant in Seehausen . After the commissioning of a new pumping station, the old system was shut down in 1994.

With financial and non-material support from hanseWasser Bremen GmbH , the main pumping station I was transformed into a museum for the technical and cultural history of wastewater disposal.
The Altes Pumpwerk association , founded in 1997 by former employees, operates the building as a museum and event location. The association was awarded the Bremen Monument Preservation Prize in November 2010 for its many years of voluntary commitment to the maintenance and expansion of the facility. The association and hanseWasser are currently developing a usage concept for increased cultural use of the facility.
In addition to a visit to the machine hall and an exhibition on the history of wastewater and wastewater technology, it is also possible to enter the "underworld" to an underground sewer.
