The old town hall is a former town hall in Haselünne, built in 1850 .

history

After the city center of Haselünne was destroyed by a major fire in 1849, the local architect Josef Niehaus was part of the building commission for the reconstruction. In 1850 he drew up the plans for the new town hall on the market square, which was built in the same year.

The building was rebuilt and stylistically changed significantly by 1949. After the city administration moved out in 1983, the building was redesigned to reflect the original plans by Niehaus. In the 1990s, a branch of the Oldenburgische Landesbank was housed on the ground floor , and later a restaurant.

description

The old town hall is a two-story, eaves brick building . In this form, Niehaus planned the entire new development in Haselünnes. In contrast to his earlier, purely classical administrative buildings, the coupled windows on the upper floor in particular show forms of the emerging neo-Romanesque or the arched style . The historic council chamber with a stucco ceiling is located on the upper floor .
