Old town hall in stone

The old town hall in Stein, a district of Königsbach-Stein in the Enzkreis in Baden-Württemberg , is a half-timbered house from the 16th century. As a cultural monument, it is under monument protection .

history

The building dates from the 16th century. It was renovated in 1750 under Mayor Wolfgang Adam Waag, in 1921 under August Kautz and in 1950 under Emil Hottinger. The half-timbering of the building was plastered from the early 19th century to 1921. The building was to give way in 1871 to the new construction of a combined school and town hall. Since the community's funds were only enough for a new school building, it was retained.

description

What is particularly striking about the two-story half-timbered building covered by a gable roof with a turret is the open hall under the protrusion of the first floor supported by five pillars. There is an old pillory stone on one of the outer pillars . On the ground floor of the building there was a guardroom, detention facility and a storage room for the fire department. The large citizens' hall is located on the upper floor.

The building is older than the town hall in the neighboring district of Königsbach and probably served as a model for it.
