Old calendar
Altkalendarier ( Greek Παλαιοημερολογίτες ) is a term for non-canonical churches in Southeast Europe and North America , which, in contrast to the canonical churches of their countries, follow the old Julian calendar .
The term is not used for canonical churches, such as the Russian Orthodox Church , which have the Julian calendar.
history
The Patriarchate of Constantinople switched to the New Julian calendar in 1924 , as did some other Orthodox churches. Churches were formed in these countries that rejected this reform and continued to follow the Julian calendar. These were not recognized as canonical by the other Orthodox churches.
In the following decades more such churches were built.
