history

inner space

The old reformed parishes emerged from a separation movement from the Reformed Church . The church in Neermoor is the youngest old reformed church in East Friesland and was founded in 1861 by Pastor JB Sundag from Bentheim with eight church members. Nickolas Steffens is employed as the first pastor in 1864.

In 1865 the one-room hall church with a gable roof , corner pilasters and three segmented arched windows on each of the long sides was built. The long sides are structured by pilasters and finished with a frieze at the top . The entrance portal is built a little in front and is flanked by two pilasters that reach up to the gable triangle. A small semicircular window is attached to the top of the gable.

In 1974 a small annex was added behind the church for community rooms. From 1885 to 1888 the community was connected to Ihrhove and from 1891/92 and 1955 to 1958 with Emden. Since 1975 Neermoor and Ihrhove have shared a common pastor's position.

The church building was listed as a historical monument in 1995 .

On December 31, 2014, the community had 60 members. After a further decline in the number of members, it was decided to dissolve the parish on January 1, 2017.

Furnishing

Organ in Neermoor

The interior of the church is simply designed with a pulpit, a table and a lectern. There is room for worshipers on twelve benches from 1954.

The English organ was last in St Alban's, Blue Bell Hill, Chatham (Kent) . It was built by Positive-Organ-London around 1900 and converted by Gerrit Geerds for Neermoor in 1993/94 and has four stops on a manual and attached pedal. The housing is largely renewed. The pipes in the prospectus come from the organ of the Unitarian Reformed Church in Risca (England), which was built by Henry Salter Neath. For the lost fourth register, an "Open Diapason" from an organ of Trinity Church Atherton (England) was purchased and installed as a replacement .

The sacrament table and a second chalice were purchased in 1987. A wooden cross has been attached to the front since 2009.
