The Reformed Church in Neermoor , a district of the East Frisian community Moormerland , was built in 1797.

history

The first church in Neermoor was built in 1422 away from the village center on a hill by the old cemetery. Services were held in a small chapel on Süderstrasse when the church in the cemetery was inaccessible in winter.

In the 18th century, the community decided to build a more accessible new building in the village center. The material of the old church was sold to finance it and local residents solicited donations in East Frisia. For further financing, the pastor at the time, Christian Carl Clinge, refrained from filling a second pastorate and provided the service alone for 21 years (1787–1808). Together with Terborg, the parish has had only one pastorate since 1965, when Rorichmor and Neermoorpolder founded their own parish.

In 1794 the old church at the cemetery was demolished and construction of the current church began. The services were held temporarily in the cemetery chapel. In 1797 the construction of the church was completed, so that the chapel could also be demolished. In 1875 the originally 33 meter high bell tower was raised by 12 meters.

Building description

The building is designed as a rectangular hall church with a gable roof . Large arched windows on the long sides, which are divided by pilaster strips , provide the interior with light. There is also a round window in the east gable. A porch on the east side serves as a foyer.

The west tower on a square floor plan is divided into three floors of different heights by cornices . It has arched windows and pairs of arched acoustic arcades . It is closed by an octagonal pointed helmet, which is crowned by a tower knob, cross and weathercock.

Furnishing

The simply designed interior is covered by a wooden barrel vault.

Only the hexagonal pulpit was taken from the previous building. It was probably created by Frerick Albers with carvings and turned corner columns. Today it stands free on a small brick pedestal in the northwest corner and is not attached to the wall.

In front of the west gallery with the organ are the communion table and a wooden baptismal font from 1862. The east gallery is more recent.

organ

The organ of the church stands on the east gallery of the church and was built between 1796 and 1798 by the Wittmund master organ builder Hinrich Just Müller . The instrument has 11 registers with attached pedal. In 1970 it was restored by the Reil brothers organ builder from Heerde and in 1995 by Winold van der Putten and Berend Veger from Winschoten . A large part of the original pipework, the wind chest and part of the keyboard have been preserved.
