The Jheringsfehner Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Jheringsfehner Church is located in the district of the same name in the municipality of Moormerland ( East Friesland ). It was inaugurated on March 21, 1864.

History and description

Interior of the church

Boekzetelerfehn was laid out in 1647, Jheringsfehn in 1660. On March 13, 1826, the two parishes with the town of Jheringsbeek put together an application for the construction of a common church. It then took almost forty years before the communities were able to agree on a location. Only then could the construction of the simple brick church with a retracted apse begin. The church was inaugurated on March 21, 1864.

The Johanneskirche was built in the neo-Romanesque style, which can be recognized above all by the decoration with Romanesque apses with pilaster strips and arched frieze. The walls are accordingly structured with large, arched windows. The south entrance is reserved for the residents of Jheringsfehn and has a small porch. The parishioners from Boekzetelerfehn enter the church through the west tower.

Furnishing

The interior is finished with a blue beamed ceiling with carved struts and red ornaments at the top. The stalls, altar , pulpit and organ are from the time it was built. In 1865 Gerd Sieben Janssen created the organ with initially 8 registers . In 1961 and 1991 it was rebuilt and expanded by Alfred Führer , so that it now has 15 stops on two manuals and a pedal. The historic case and some parts are original. The brass chandeliers were donated by parishioners whose names are engraved. The stained glass window was donated on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the consecration of the church in March 1914 and placed in the middle of the north side.
