Boekzetelerfehn is a village in the municipality of Moormerland in the district of Leer in Lower Saxony .
The formerly independent municipality has formed the municipality of Moormerland together with ten other villages since the municipal reform that came into force on January 1, 1973.
On December 31, 2016, the place had 748 inhabitants who lived on 6.75 km².
Between Boekzetelerfehn and Timmel (municipality of Großefehn ) lies the Boekzeteler Meer , an East Frisian low moor lake .
history
The settlement of the Geest strip at the "Boekzeteler Kloster" has been documented since around 1180, although the first settlement probably took place much earlier. After the decline of the East Frisian monasteries, monasteries and comrades from 1632, a " fen entrepreneur " named Paul Harsebroek ventured into the cultivation of the adjacent high moor and thus founded the "Boekzetelerfehn" in 1647.
