Veenhusen is a village in the municipality of Moormerland in the district of Leer in Lower Saxony . At the end of 2016, the 15.62 km² village had around 4150 inhabitants.

history

The formerly independent municipality has formed the municipality of Moormerland together with ten other villages since the municipal reform that came into force on January 1, 1973. The place had 3898 inhabitants on December 31, 2011. The Veenhuser Church was built around 1400 and houses an organ built by Johann Gottfried Rohlfs in 1801 and 1802 , which has largely been preserved.

Veenhusen is politically represented by a seven-member local council.

The local mayor is Dietmar Fecht (SPD).

societies

In 1927 VfL "Fortuna" Veenhusen e. V. founded as a pure football club. It is now a multi-branch association with around 1000 members.

In the summer of 2010, the Association for Christian School Education in East Friesland (VES e.V.) moved its headquarters from Großefehn to Veenhusen. He runs the Free Christian School Ostfriesland (FCSO), an integrated comprehensive school with grades 1 to 13, whose two locations are also in Veenhusen.
