Moormerland in the district of Leer

Neermoor is a district of the municipality of Moormerland in East Friesland , which at the end of 2016 had around 4,750 inhabitants on an area of 19.21 km².

history

Neermoor is a daughter settlement of Edana and was probably founded further east on the edge of the moor before its demise in the 11th century. The oldest written mention dates back to the year 1400. In a document, Neermoor is listed as Edenramora . Later name variants were Nymramore (1409), Eramoere (1428), Edramora (1436), in Eddermore (1439), Neydermoer (1481), Neddermoer (1494) and Neermohr (1577). The place name is probably derived from the desolate, fallen mother settlement of Edana .

During the Middle Ages there were two castles belonging to the chief Focko Ukena and his son Uko Fockena in Neermoor. A castle stood on today's Vossbergweg - corner of Burgstraße. The second stood between today's Osterstrasse and Süderstrasse.

In 1422 a small church was built on a hill at the old cemetery away from the village center, which was replaced by the reformed church from 1797. The old reformed church dates from 1865.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Neermoor was a farming village. There were 44 farmers whose farms were located along today's Norderstrasse and Süderstrasse. They managed their extension, which bordered on today's Königstrasse in Warsingsfehn . Königstrasse represents the border between Neermoor and Warsingsfehn. Therefore, the residents who live on the side facing Neermoor live in Neermoor colony.

On January 1, 1973 Neermoor was incorporated into the new municipality of Moormerland.

politics

Neermoor is politically represented by a 9-member local council.

The local mayor is Hendrik Schulz (SPD).
