Harro Uwe Cloppenburg

Harro Uwe Cloppenburg (born October 28, 1940 ) is the managing director of Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf .

He worked in the family business since 1968 and took over the management after the death of his father James Cloppenburg jr. (1902–1986), the son of James Cloppenburg senior. (1877-1926). His older brother Ulf Cloppenburg (* 1939) failed to succeed; He had fallen out with his father at an early age and sued him in 1974 for five million marks in damages.

There have been no photos of him for a long time. In 2005 it was reported that the Kölner Express, which had succeeded in taking a snapshot of him when opening a new house, had to delete it from the archive on the instructions of its lawyers.

Harro Uwe Cloppenburg's fortune was estimated at around 500 million euros in 2010. He has been registered in Feusisberg (Switzerland) since May 24, 2000 , which gives him tax advantages. He has had Austrian citizenship since 2005 .

In 2014, he and his son Hendrik wanted to acquire their own hunting grounds near Kesseling , for which he offered the community a property for a 360 hectare forest: a commercial building in downtown Bonn, rented to a fashion store belonging to P&C. However, the local council voted unanimously against it.

In 2017 he sued the former carer of his stepmother Elisabeth Cloppenburg († 2015). This had been paid by her long-term employer with black money, according to the carer as a net wage. Harro Uwe Cloppenburg doubted this and asked her to return the evaded wage tax of 242,000 euros plus interest that he had paid in arrears. The court agreed with him.

Harro Uwe Cloppenburg is married and has five children, the two oldest sons are from his first marriage.

  • Hendrik Cloppenburg (born January 19, 1965) was trained at the New York luxury department store Saks and was around 2005 as "Crown Prince". Around 2007 he was the general manager for purchasing men's fashion. After an argument with his father, he left the management team around 2011 and has been working outside the company ever since.
  • John Cloppenburg (* around 1969) has been a member of the company's management for a long time (before 2007). He was introduced in early 2017 as the new family spokesman and face of the company. He is the father of four children.
  • Patrick Cloppenburg (born July 2, 1982) completed an economics degree in London and joined the company in 2005 as a department head for men's articles in Cologne. He has been a member of the company's management since 2010. At the same time, he became his father's deputy and thus - past his two older half-brothers - held the role of potential successor. The Wirtschaftswoche wrote in 2015 that he could not fill this role, that he was “rather inexperienced”, “not an entrepreneur” and “often does not strike the right note when talking to employees”. In 2017, he started to build his half-brother John as his successor, but Patrick remains in the company management and is still his father's deputy.
  • Catharina Johanna Cloppenburg (born December 27, 1985) has been a member of the company management since the beginning of 2016 and is responsible for marketing.
