Gandersum is a small village with around 90 inhabitants and an area of 3.20 km². The place is on the northern bank of the Ems , about seven kilometers east of Emden between Petkum and Oldersum . Gandersum has been assigned to the municipality of Moormerland in the district of Leer since the municipal area reform of January 1, 1973 .
history
Gandersum is already in the Urbar of the monastery are named for the period from about 930 as "Gondrikeshem". The Gandersum Church dates back to the 14th century, but has undergone significant structural changes over the centuries.
Since 1998, the controversial construction of the Ems Barrage has brought the place into the public eye. Since the building was completed in 2002, tourism has increased significantly.
