The Evangelical Reformed Church in Oldersum , a district of the East Frisian municipality of Moormerland , was built in 1922/1923 after the previous church from the early 15th century was destroyed in a fire in 1916.

history

inner space

When the first church was built in Oldersum is still unknown. Around 1400 the inhabitants of the village built a single-nave brick church in the Gothic style on the highest point of the village . Presumably it had a previous wooden building. In the church there was a grave vault for the Oldersum chiefs. Up until the Reformation, Oldersum belonged to the diocese of Münster, provost Emden.

In 1526 the Oldersum Religious Discussion , initiated by Ulrich von Dornum , took place in the church , a public debate between the Emden preacher Georg Aportanus and the Catholic Dominican prior Laurens Laurensen , which contributed to the rapid implementation of Protestantism in East Frisia . Since then, the vast majority of the local population has been of the Reformed faith. In the church also worked Andreas Bodenstein , who was often called simply Charles city due to its origin, Menno Simons and other Mennonites. In 1580 the church probably had an onion dome, which was converted into an octagonal tip after 1633.

Due to a technical defect, the church burned to the ground in 1916 and was then torn down. The equipment was also completely destroyed. Services took place in the hall of the Hotel Brand after the destruction .

In the years 1922 to 1923, today's community center consisting of a church and community hall was built according to plans by the architect Sasse from Hanover. It was then given a pulpit and benches. In the years 1925-26 a gallery was built in. The building did not initially have a church tower. This was built in 1956. Until then, the parish used a wooden bell tower.

Furnishing

The chandelier was donated by the municipality in 1927. The Vasa Sacra are also relatively young. They consist of a cup dated 1829, which was created by master Jacobus Meinardi Swartte from Emden, a cup from the workshop of master Schaaf from Emden, which was made in 1862, and two bread plates from the same year, one A large jug and four pewter collecting plates acquired in 1860, the date of which is unknown.

organ

Ahrend organ

A first organ was probably built into the church by Mester Clemens around 1450. In 1461, Chief Wiard zu Uphusen and Oldersum decreed in a will that the organ builder should be paid the outstanding costs. The second organ was built in 1622 by an unknown master. It is said to have been an organ in the style of the late Renaissance , which probably stood on a swallow's nest gallery on the north side of the church. In 1796 Johann Friedrich Wenthin from Emden erected a new Rococo- style instrument with twelve registers in front of the choir in the east of the church , which was destroyed in a fire in 1916. In the new building in 1935, an organ by Friedrich Klassmeier from Lemgo with 19 stops, which were pneumatically controlled. Ten years later this instrument was defective, but it was not possible to build it again because of the Second World War . On June 2, 1952, the regional church music warden Rolf Hallensleben confirmed in an expert report that the organ was missing. Finally, in 1965, a new organ was bought from the Karl Schuke company in Berlin. This was originally intended for the much larger church in Eilsum and, with its seven registers in the manual and two registers in the pedal, represented a minimal solution in terms of disposition and sound, so that the desire for a new organ arose.

In 2004, a new building was commissioned from Jürgen Ahrend from Loga , who created an instrument with the style of the North German Baroque . At first only the main work and the pedal were completed; the installation of the breastwork was prepared. In the first construction phase, the keyboard, wind chest and the two wooden flutes were installed in the breastwork in 2008 . The native of Oldersum and former workshop manager of the Ahrend company manufactured the Brustwerk wind chest and the Holzgedackt 8 ′ free of charge. In 2011 two more labial registers and in 2012 the Krummhorn were installed, so that the organ has been complete since then. The slider chest instrument has 18 registers, divided into two manuals and pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
