history
The former fishing village of Altwriezen was first mentioned in documents in 1412, but the place is older. Like all other villages that existed before the Oderbruch was drained, the village was laid out as a square village with a radial structure ( Rundlingsdorf ). The place was owned by the Barfuß family until 1719. In 1736 the village, which was then still on the main stream of the Oder, was badly damaged in a flood. The southern half of the round was washed away. The half-timbered church in the middle was preserved, but was demolished in 1973 due to its dilapidation. A new round was built to the west of the old one, so that the village received the double round structure that is still recognizable today. In the years 1749, 1770 and 1838 there were further floods of the Oder . After the Oderbruch was drained (1747–1761), fishing lost its importance for the village. The former main stream of the Oder now only flows as a small stream past Altwriezen. Like all villages in the Oderbruch, Altwriezen is today an agricultural place.
Altwriezen belonged to the Oberbarnim district until 1945 . On January 1, 1957, Altwriezen and Beauregard merged to form the municipality of Altwriezen / Beauregard. Altwriezen / Beauregard was incorporated into the town of Wriezen on December 31, 1997 together with Schulzendorf, Rathsdorf / Neugaul and Eichwerder. Altwriezen / Beauregard has had district status since then, Altwriezen is part of the district of Altwriezen / Beauregard.
