Altyre House

Altyre House , formerly Blair's House , was a mansion near the Scottish town of Forres in the Moray Council Area . After the building was demolished, the name was carried over to the former rectory on the property that still exists today . This was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in 1989 in Category B.

history

The lands of Altyre belonged to the line of the Comyns , which provided the Lords of Badenoch . The place was historically also the jurisdiction, of which the Gallow Hill ("Gallows Hill ") testifies. The last mansion on the site was built in 1818 to a design by Scottish architect James McBride . Extensions were made in the 1890s, possibly planned by John Kinross . Further construction phases took place around 1900 and 1933. In 1962 Altyre House was demolished.

Today's Altyre House was built in 1895 to a design by William Laidlaw Carruthers . It initially served as the parsonage of the nearby Altyre Old Parish Church . In 1931 it was expanded. In the same year the ruling family gave up their seat.

There is a listed cross plate on the property .
