Alza.cz as is a Czech online retailer that is active in the Czech Republic , Slovakia and, since 2014 , in other EU member states . The company can be accessed at the following addresses: Alza.de, Alza.at, Alza.hu, Alza.co.uk and Alzashop.com. Alza mainly sells electrical appliances and toys. The range also serves the segments of sports and hobby equipment, multimedia , perfume, watches and drugstores.

The company was founded in 1994 as Alzasoft . Today (in 2018), in addition to online trading, Alza.cz operates a total of 49 branches and 78 so-called AlzaBoxes not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also in Hungary and Austria . The company also has showrooms in Prague, Bratislava and Budapest. Alza.cz is the largest online retailer in the Czech Republic with an annual turnover of almost 21 billion crowns (820 million euros) in the 2017 financial year.

Alza.cz belongs to a group of investors who run the company through the holding company LS Investments Limited based in Cyprus . The shareholders are anonymous. CEO , board member and company founder is Aleš Zavoral. Alza.cz operates as a Czech joint-stock company with taxation in the Czech Republic.

At the end of 2017, Alza.cz had a total of around 200,000 products in its range and delivered around 2.9 million orders.

history

In 1994 company founder Aleš Zavoral registered his trade. The company's first website went online in spring 1998 , but it did not yet offer any ordering options. In the summer of 1998, what was then Alzasoft rented a small retail space on Dělnická Street in Prague. In 2000 the company moved to a larger facility on Jateční Street. An electronics store with an attached online shop was created. In the course of the great flood in August 2002 , the store and warehouse were flooded.

Alzasoft as Aktiengesellschaft was founded on January 1st, 2004 . At that time it had 45 employees. Alzasoft expanded into Slovakia and opened branches in Bratislava, Nitra , Trenčín and Trnava (in that order). The storage area in Prague's Holešovice district has been expanded to a total of 1,600 m². In 2006 the company rebranded and was renamed alza.cz. In the following year 2007, the company mascot Alzák the extraterrestrial was launched. Alzák has since acted as a protagonist in most of the commercials and marketing campaigns.

In the summer of 2010, alza.cz opened its new logistics center in Horní Počerníce at the gates of Prague.

In October 2015, Alza launched its Alza Premium rewards program . This includes free delivery, a music and video streaming service , preferential goods issue and extended return periods.

In 2016, the Hungarian version of the online shop was activated and orders were now also delivered on weekends. All physical branches have also been open on weekends since then. In December 2016, alza announced the establishment of two historical record values. On the one hand, income of over CZK 1 billion was generated within one week for the first time. On the other hand, the sum of CZK 200 million marked a new daily record turnover.

In 2017, Alza.cz broke new ground in the field of electromobility and cryptocurrencies by enabling payments with bitcoins and electric cars, etc. a. the Tesla integrated into its e-shop. As part of its Europe-wide expansion, alza.cz opened its first branch in Austria and the showroom in Hungary in the same year. The new warehouse P3 Prague D8 in Zdiby was also rented. An independent e-commerce B2C system was also introduced across all areas.
