backgrounds

The idea for the film came from BVB supporters Marc Quambusch, Jan-Henrik Gruszecki and Gregor Schnittker in 2013 . The financing came from the crowdfunding platform Startnext . In a period of three and a half months, the film project won a total of 2975 sponsors. The sponsors, including Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA and the registered association, made a total of 217,892 euros available to the filmmakers in donations and received personal gifts such as a mention in the credits, tickets for the film premiere or a DVD of the film. Other supporters and sponsors added to the amount to a total of around 259,000 euros.

According to the makers, the film is the "German Crowdfunding Master" or the most successful crowdfunding project in Germany.

Locations

Dortmund-Borsigplatz roundabout

The main part of the scenes, both the interviews and the re-enactments , were filmed in the original locations in Dortmund's Borsigplatz district . The main filming location was the “Zum Wildschütz” inn, Borussia's establishment at Oesterholzstrasse 60, which is now a rental apartment and was specially converted. The living room / kitchen of the Jacobi family, whose authentic furnishings can be seen in the film, is the museum in the old colony in Brambauer ; there is also the sports field, which can be seen in the film and is supposed to represent the white meadow .

Franz Jacobi is reburied

As part of the preparation of the crowdfunding for the film, the makers also learned that the joint grave of Franz Jacobi and his wife Lydia in Salzgitter-Lebenstedt had already been removed, but not re-assigned. Together with the management of Borussia Dortmund, it was then possible for Jacobi and his wife to be reburied. Jacobi was buried in the Südwestfriedhof in Dortmund in a solemn ceremony on July 27, 2013.

Reviews

Main actors of the film from left to right Gregor, Kaufmann, Rauball, Kritzler and Dunning

“What should be a must for every BVB fan is a very good recommendation for every football fan with a penchant for tradition and history - and perhaps not a bad welcome gift for newcomers who later want to kiss the coat of arms. Verdict: 'didactic piece ... without too thickly applied pathos' .
