Am Timan ( Arabic أم تيمان, DMG ʾUmm Tīmān ) is a city in Chad and is the capital of the Salamat region . Am Timan means “mother of the twins” in Arabic, the origin of this name is unknown. In Am Timan there is one airport, Am Timan Airport . The city is located on the Salamat River and not far from the Zakouma National Park . Due to its proximity to the crisis area in Darfur , it is the point of contact for refugees. The municipality is located in the Ramsar area of Plaines d'inondation des Bahr Aouk et Salamat , which is one of the world's largest protected areas of this type.
