Hessen is a locality in the north of the Bergisch city ​​of Wuppertal . After the establishment of the Am neue Hessen residential area south of the original settlement , the name Am alten Hessen also established itself .

Location and description

The location is at an altitude of 275  m above sea level. NHN on today's Westfalenweg corner of Hainstraße in the north of the residential area Nevigeser Straße in the Uellendahl-Katernberg district . Metzmachersrath is in the immediate vicinity . The old road from Elberfeld to Neviges (today Hainstraße ) and the Kohlenweg, which ran as a high route in an east-west direction (today Westfalenweg ) , crossed near Hesse .

In 1832 Hesse belonged to the Katernberger Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . The place, categorized as Kotten according to the statistics and topography of the administrative district of Düsseldorf , was designated as am Hessen and at that time had five residential buildings and three agricultural buildings. At that time 49 residents lived in the place, including one Catholic and 48 Protestant faith. No population is given for 1815/16.
