from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amalia von Reischach (* 1447 ; † February 25, 1531 ) was abbess of the Lindau Canon Church from 1491 to 1531 .

Life

Amalia (also Amalie) was born in 1447 as the eldest of seven children of her low-nobility parents Elsbeth von Schienen († April 28, 1477) and Bilgrin I. von Reischach († ~ 1500). Amalia probably spent her first years at her father's headquarters, the front Hohenstoffeln Castle in Hegau . Her sister Magdalena († 1520) was a nun at Wald , her brother Bilgrin II. (~ 1456–1533) married Afra von Helmsdorf († 1529) and continued the lineage with eleven children.

Amalia von Reischach was first mentioned in a document on March 20, 1476: When Ursula Vogt von Summerau was elected as the new abbess of the Lindau monastery , Amalia was named as the fifth of eight women choirs . Two weeks after Ursula's death on January 4, 1491, Amalia von Reischach was elected on January 18, 1491 as the new abbess of the imperial women's monastery in Lindau. In this position, she had all the rights and obligations of a princely sovereign: Amalia was invited to Reichstag , received Emperor Maximilian I several times , negotiated with other gentlemen about the jurisdiction of her serfs and supervised expenses and income of the monastery.

Amalia von Reischach died at the age of 84 and after more than 40 years in the abbess's office on February 25, 1531.
