Count Leo Lanckoroński , full name Leo Maria Ludwig Heinrich Carl Graf von Lanckoroński (born March 25, 1884 in Mauschwitz , Upper Silesia ; † May 9, 1967 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German judge , photographer and translator .

Life

Leo Graf Lanckoroński first grew up on the family estate in Mauschwitz, but at the age of eight, due to his father's financial difficulties, he had to move into a tenement in Wroclaw with his parents . After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Wroclaw . He passed his first state examination in 1906 after a one-year break due to a stay in Lausanne. In 1907 he was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD. Immediately afterwards he fell ill with pulmonary tuberculosis, which is why he did not take his second state examination until 1914. After working as a public prosecutor in Frankfurt am Main and Hechingen , he became a judge at the Frankfurt am Main District Court in 1921 .

In 1923 he married Maria Wertheimber-de Bary (1896–1978), who came from a Jewish family in Frankfurt . Because of this marriage he was forced into retirement by the National Socialists in 1937. During the period of forced professional inactivity, Lanckonski wrote works on numismatics and translated Italian sonnets into German.

In July 1945 he was recalled from retirement by the American military government and installed as President of the Frankfurt District Court. He remained in this position until he finally reached the age limit in 1949.

In 1953 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his work .
