Genre : Wulstlinge ( Amanita )
Type : Fringed amanita
Scientific name
Amanita strobiliformis
( Paulet ex Vittad. ) Bertill.

The Fringed amanita ( Amanita strobiliformis ) is a species of fungus from the family of amanitaceae .

features

The hat is colored white to gray. It is covered with white, remaining remains of velum and has a diameter of 8 to 25 cm. At a young age, the hat is fringed with remains of velum, hence the name. The lamellas are white and have a fine, jagged edge. The stem is colored like the hat and has a beet-like, bulbous stem base that is not modest. The ring is floury and flaky and grooved on the top. Often the ring is incomplete, so it cannot be considered a safe identifier. The smell varies from neutral to pleasantly nutty.

Species delimitation

In general, it is difficult to confuse the species. Distantly similar are the egg amanita ( Amanita ovoidea ) without fringed velum remains and the poisonous hedgehog amanita ( Amanita solitaria ) with much more pointed velum remains.

ecology

The fringed amanita is a warmth-loving species. It grows from July to September in warm deciduous forests, rarely also in pine forests, but it can also be found on streets and in parks. He prefers to grow on limestone soil.

distribution

In Central Europe the species occurs very scattered. It is common in the Mediterranean region.

Danger

The fringed amanita is not endangered in Germany. In recent years, however, several finds have been reported from northern Germany. The species seems to be spreading.

meaning

The fringed amanita is considered a good edible mushroom. In old age it tastes a bit musty. In general, the species should be protected rather than landed on the plate.
