The Amata (German Ammat ) is a left-hand tributary of the Gauja in Latvia . The river has its source on the Livonian ridge in Lake Kūkālis and has a steep gradient by Baltic standards . The lower reaches lie in a steep, 15-25 meter deep valley with lateral sand and dolomite rocks on the banks.
During autumn floods, the Amata is a popular destination for boaters and canoeists.
