Deir el-Sitt Damiana (Sohag)

Deir el-Sitt Damiana ("Monastery of the Lady Damiana", also Deir el-Anba Moussa ("Monastery of the Father Moses")) is a Coptic monastery near the ancient city of Abydos in Egypt . It is located in the village of the same name within an early dynastic brick wall west of Kom el-Sultan .
The church of the monastery was built in 1590 and is divided into three naves , each with seven round arches . The left three arches are dedicated to the Coptic saint Damiana and the right four arches to Apa Moses , who is said to have finally ended paganism in Abydos in the fifth century . Both saints have their own haikal ( chancel ) and a baptismal font in the church .
