Ambla (German: Ampel ) was a rural community in the Estonian district of Järva with an area of 166.4 km². It had 2284 inhabitants (as of 2010).
In addition to the main town Ambla (429 inhabitants), the municipality also included the villages Aravete , Käravete , Roosna, Jõgisoo, Kurisoo , Raka, Märjandi, Reinevere, Sääsküla, Kukevere, Mägise and Rava (in descending order of the number of inhabitants).

The parish of Ambla was founded around 1220 when the native Estonians were Christianized. The first church was built around 1270 and dedicated to Mary , the Mother of God . The name of the community comes from the Latin Amplae Mariae (Great Mighty Maria). The church is the oldest preserved sacred building in Central Estonia and with its 49.5 meter high tower built in 1857, it is a symbol of the community.
