Kurisoo (German Kurrisal ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the Estonian rural community Ambla in Järva County .

Location and history

Kurisoo is located 18 kilometers from Tapa . It was first mentioned in 1447 under the name Kyrisar . Kurisoo has 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2006).

The name of the place probably comes from the Estonian term for karst funnel , kurisu . The sinkhole between Kurisoo and Aravete has a diameter of twenty meters.

Good Kurisoo

The historical manor of Kurisoo was first mentioned in 1585. From 1795 it was owned by the noble von Mohrenschildt family and from 1873 by the von Staal family . The last Baltic German owners before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform of 1919 were the heirs of Konrad Hugo von Staal.

The one and a half story mansion in the classicism style dates from the beginning of the 19th century. The main entrance is adorned by a portico with four round columns. The small village museum has been located in the building since 1989.
