Amdorfer Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Amdorfer Church is located in Amdorf , a district of the Detern municipality in the south-west of East Frisia .

history

When the first church was built in Amdorf is unknown. A church was probably built before 1300, as a measuring chalice has been preserved from this time, which is considered the oldest in East Frisia.

The parish is mentioned for the first time in 1475 in a tax list of the Bishop of Münster. The Reformation in Amdorf prevailed until 1583, a list of clearly evangelical pastors dates from that year.

In the 18th century, the church was in danger of collapsing, was demolished in 1769 and replaced by a new building, with furnishings being taken over into the new building.

In 1870 a tower was added to the church.

On January 1, 1975, the independent parishes, each with their own houses of worship in Amdorf and Neuburg, united to form the Amdorf / Neuburg parish, which is the smallest in the parish with around 240 parishioners.
