Season course

The season start of the Austrian State Rally Championship 2010 was originally planned with the 28th edition of the January rally . However, it was canceled on November 5, 2009 because of unworkable official requirements.

BP Ultimate Rally in Lavanttal

After the cancellation of the January rally, the Austrian State Rally Championship 2010 began on April 9th with the 34th BP Ultimate Rally in Lavanttal around Wolfsberg . The program included twelve special stages over a distance of almost 177 kilometers. The rally resulted in a duel between the reigning champion Raimund Baumschlager in Škoda Fabia S2000 and challenger Andreas Aigner in the new Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X out. Aigner lost time on Baumschlager after a driving error on the sixth special stage and after a brake caliper defect on the tenth stage. Baumschlager won the duel with a lead of 6.6 seconds over Aigner. Patrick Winter , Beppo Harrach and Andreas Waldherr followed on the other places . Aigner was fastest on seven special stages, and on five Baumschlager. The rally was attended by 55,000 spectators.

Bosch Super plus rally

The second rally station of the season was the Bosch Super plus rally around Pinggau , which started on April 30th. Again Raimund Baumschlager and Andreas Aigner fought a close duel for the overall victory. After an accident on the twelfth of 14 special stages, the rally was over for Aigner. Baumschlager scored his second victory with a clear lead of 1: 21.8 minutes. Patrick Winter took second place ahead of Beppo Harrach and Andreas Waldherr. Local hero Willi Stengg junior was fifth . who ousted Mario Saibel on the last exams . Baumschlager won nine special stages, Aigner three and Winter one. In the championship, after this rally, with Aigner's failure, a slight preliminary decision had already been made.

Castrol Judenburg-Pölstal rally

On June 4th, the third rally of the 2010 season began with the Castrol Judenburg-Pölstal rally around Judenburg . It ran over 142 kilometers on 13 special stages. In sunny weather, Andreas Aigner and Patrick Winter were able to put the leading Raimund Baumschlager under pressure on the first day of the rally. However, Aigner was thrown back on the second day because of a punctured tire and Winter fell behind because of the damaged charge air cooler before he had to retire on the penultimate stage with a damaged gearbox. For Beppo Harrach, the rally ended on the third stage after an accident on a bridge railing. Baumschlager thus confidently achieved his third rally victory. Mario Saibel finished second, 47.5 seconds behind. After his tire damage on the last two stages, Aigner was able to push Andreas Waldherr out of third place. Baumschlager and Aigner each went to five special tests and one each to Winter, Saibel and Hermann Gassner sen. 45,000 spectators attended the rally.

Škoda Rally Maribor

The Austrian State Rally Championship was again held in Maribor , Slovenia , where the Škoda Rally Maribor opened as the fourth stop of the season on July 2nd . Nine special tests were completed over a distance of almost 109 kilometers. However, Patrick Winter could not take part in the rally due to a lack of sponsorship money and Andreas Aigner due to disagreements with the team management. Reinhard Pasteiner took the lead on the first day that a Super Special was held . The following day there were eight special stages on the asphalt road. First, Raimund Baumschlager took over the lead. When local hero Darko Peljhan, who started in front of Baumschlager, obscured his view with engine failure on the fourth special stage , he lost about 10 seconds and had to hand over the lead to Andreas Waldherr. After Baumschlager had taken the lead again on the fifth special stage, he was thrown back on the next stage with a puncture four kilometers from the finish and was now third behind Waldherr and Mario Saibel. Baumschlager was able to gain a lead on the last stages and achieved his fourth win of the season. Waldherr finished second, 14.9 seconds back. In the other places followed Beppo Harrach and Mario Saibel, who lost third place because the differential broke on his vehicle five kilometers from the finish. Aleks Humar finished fifth and was the best Slovenian. Baumschlager won four special tests, Waldherr two and Saibel and Pasteiner one each.

Schneebergland rally

On July 23, the Schneebergland Rally around Rohr im Gebirge had its premiere in the Austrian State Rally Championship. 125 kilometers were covered in 15 special stages, of which 62 percent were on gravel roads. Beppo Harrach set several best times at the start of the rally. However, a mistake in the road book led to a wheel change in a prohibited zone, for which Harrach received a penalty minute and missed the possible overall victory. Manfred Stohl in the natural gas-powered Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX was also hit by bad luck . He was fastest on the gravel stage on the second day, but fell behind Baumschlager with engine failures on the tenth stage. On the last stage, Stohl achieved a time 15 seconds faster than Baumschlager, but Baumschlager managed to get 0.2 seconds ahead of the finish and won the rally despite his defensive driving style. For Harrach only the third place jumped out because of the penalty time, 49.4 seconds behind. Fourth place in his home rally was Gerwald Grössing , who made his private property available for a special test. Harrach achieved seven best times, Stohl six and Baumschlager two. After his victory at the Schneebergland Rally, Baumschlager became Austrian State Rally Champion for the ninth time.

ARBÖ Rally Styria

The sixth round of the Austrian State Rally Championship 2010 was the 37th ARBÖ Rallye Styria , which started on September 24th and was held around Admont . The program included 13 special stages over almost 136 kilometers. A duel developed between Raimund Baumschlager and Beppo Harrach for the overall victory, with both pilots alternating with best times on the individual stages. Manfred Stohl retired from the eighth special stage after an accident when his vehicle lost traction in a fast right-hand bend and hit an earth wall. In the battle for overall victory Baumschlager was able to keep Harrach behind by 1.8 seconds and he achieved his sixth rally victory of the 2010 season. Andreas Waldherr was already third ahead of Mario Saibel, more than a minute behind. Harrach won seven special stages and Baumschlager six.

Rallye Waldviertel

The seventh and final stop of the Austrian State Rally Championship 2010 was the Waldviertel rally , which started on October 29th. There, the runner-up was decided between Andreas Waldherr, Mario Saibel and Beppo Harrach. Raimund Baumschlager also won this event and thus won all rounds of the Austrian rally championship 2010. In second place came Beppo Harrach in Horn (Lower Austria) with the goal that second place would have been enough for the runner-up title. However, the VW motorsport team of sixth placed Andreas Waldherr made a protest against Beppo Harrach's vehicle. Due to a non-homologated fuel pump, which according to OSK did not bring any competitive advantage, Harrach was still disqualified on December 9th. Second place in the championship went to Waldherr. Second place in the Waldviertel rally went to Andreas Aigner and the Hungarian rally driver Dávid Botka took third place.
