Amelia Wood

Amelia Wood (born Wershoven, first marriage Bert; born December 11, 1930 in Ridgefield Park ; † June 7, 2013 in Mattituck , New York ) was an American javelin thrower and shot putter .

At the Pan American Games she won silver in the javelin throw in Buenos Aires in 1951 and was fourth in the shot put. In 1955 in Mexico City , she won bronze in the javelin throw.

In 1956 she came in 14th place in the javelin throw at the Olympic Games in Melbourne .

At the Pan American Games in Chicago in 1959 , she again won bronze in the javelin throw.

She was US champion four times in the shot put (1949, 1951-1953) and twice in javelin throw (1950, 1953) and in baseball throw (1951, 1955). In August 1957 she threw a baseball 76.92 m, setting a world record. In 1950, 1952 and 1953 she was US indoor champion in the shot put.
