Amenemope (also: Amenemipet ) was the fourth ancient Egyptian king ( Pharaoh ) of the 21st Dynasty ( Third Intermediate Period ) and ruled around 996–985 BC. As successor to his father Psusennes I.

family

Amenemopes mother is the sister wife of Psusennes I, Mutnedjmet . Siamun , Osochor's successor , may be his son. But this has not been clarified for sure.

Domination

After Manetho he ruled for nine years. It is uncertain whether he was co-regent of his father's last two years. The direct successor of Psusennes I was Osochor. A "49. Year of reign "on a mummy bandage does not refer to Amenemope, but to Psusennes I. Or in another opinion on the high priest Mencheperre.

It does not appear in foreign policy. Only the granting of asylum for the Edomite Crown Prince Hadad mentioned in the Old Testament is attributed to him.

In Tanis he is also high priest of Amun .

His grave

Amenemope was first buried in a small chamber in the royal cemetery in Tanis (grave IV). Amenemope was presumably reburied by Siamun in the chamber originally intended for Mutnedjmet in Psusennes I's grave. When it was opened on April 16, 1940, Pierre Montet found among other things a gold mask, two collars , two pectorals , bracelets and rings, gold and silver vessels as well as breast jewelry in the shape of a falcon from the grave equipment .
