List of domestic dogs

The American Bully is a dog from the USA that is not recognized as a separate breed of dog by either the FCI or the Association for German Dogs . In 2013, however, the American United Kennel Club (UKC) recognized a corresponding breed standard. The American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) differentiates between four size categories: Pocket, Standard, Classic and XL.

Origin and history

The American Bully is a hybrid dog , and opinions differ as to whose true ancestry. It was probably originally a breed of American Staffordshire Terrier and American Pit Bull Terrier , later crosses with other Bulldog breeds were added ( American Bulldog , Olde English Bulldogge , French Bulldogge and English Bulldogge ).

According to the ABKC, the intent was to breed a calm dog with less drive and more intimidating traits than the American Staffordshire Terrier. Mass and heavy bone structure were prioritized to achieve this look. The breed was first recognized by its ABKC breed club in 2004.

description

with uncut ears

The American Bully is a small, robust, heavy dog with a large head, broad chest and strong bones in a wide variety of colors and color combinations. He is a dog that is specifically intended as a companion dog , and his behavior should therefore be docile and adaptable to both humans and other animals. He is an active dog with medium energy and is suitable for regular walks and play.

Within the ABKC, the four grades are separated by height. It is expected that all dogs conform to the given standard with minor deviations.

  • Pocket : less than 43 cm
  • Standard : 43 to 51 cm
  • Classic : 43 to 51 cm, but lighter than the standard type
  • XL : more than 51 cm to 57 cm

Breed list

The American Bully is not listed in the breed list of the dog law for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (§ 3 Paragraph 2 LHundG NRW). The court has not yet generally and conclusively decided under which conditions a dog that does not belong to one of the dog breeds expressly named in the law can still be classified as a dangerous dog and the keeping prohibited.
