American Media is a publisher and publisher of numerous magazines, particularly in the tabloids , sports, bodybuilding, and fitness. American Media has a subsidiary called Distribution Services . American Media has been owned by the hedge funds Chatham Asset Management and Omega Charitable Partnership since 2014. David J. Pecker is a longtime friend and former Donald Trump attorney .

In June 2018, the Bauer Media Group sold the American editions of its celebrity magazines (including inTouch , Life & Style , Closer ) to AMI.

In December 2018, AMI reached an agreement that brought the SDNY prosecutors to a standstill against the admission that AMI paid Karen McDougal primarily to buy her silence and influence the outcome of the presidential election.
