Americano (cocktail)

Americano

The Americano is a classic aperitif cocktail . It is made from Campari and Vermouth rosso. Orange and lemon are used as a garnish.

The ingredients are stirred over ice in a tumbler , topped up with a splash of soda if desired and garnished. The Americano was supposedly first served in the Gaspare Campari's bar, Café Campari, in the 1860s. Originally the cocktail was not called Americano, but Milano-Torino , which refers to the production cities of the two ingredients: the Campari is from Milan and the Cinzano from Turin.

The Americano became famous not least through Ian Fleming's James Bond , who ordered an Americano as the first drink in Casino Royale, the very first volume in the novel series.

Standard recipe
