The American Enigma replica ( English M1 Analog Machine ) is a cryptanalytic machine developed and manufactured in the United States that was used to decipher the German Enigma rotor key machine . The replica emulates the function of the Enigma, but looks significantly different and also has special operating functions that were useful for the American cryptanalysts .

Similar to the checking machine used by the British Codebreakers in Bletchley Park , England , the replica was used to verify the spell keys determined with the help of the Turing bomb . It could also be used for the mechanical decryption of German radio messages whose key had already been broken .

Occasionally the M-325 (also called: SIGFOY) rotor key machine developed by William Friedman in the USA in 1936 is seen as an American Enigma replica.
