The Amethystglanzstar ( Cinnyricinclus leucogaster ) is a bird art from the family of Stare (Sturnidae). The body length of the animals is between 16 and 18 centimeters. He is the only representative of the genus Cinnyricinclus .

Appearance

The male amethyst gloss star has white abdominal plumage, the metallic violet shiny plumage on the back and head is particularly striking. The young birds and the female are brownish in color on the head and back. The belly is white with brown spots. The beak and legs of the birds are black.

distribution and habitat

This bird species is found in the southwest of the Arabian Peninsula and in sub- Saharan Africa . It inhabits the rainforests and savannahs, but is also found in parks and gardens of human settlements.

Way of life

The very sociable birds live together in colonies. The amethyst gloss star feeds on fruits, but also on insects, especially termites, which it catches on the fly. Depending on the area of ​​distribution, they are loyal to their location all year round or live nomadically.

Reproduction

The nest, which is composed of feathers, plant material and excrement, is created by the birds in caves of old trees. The female lays up to 6 eggs, which are incubated for up to 18 days. After about 3 weeks, the young will fledge.

Danger

Because of its widespread distribution and because this species is not known to be endangered, the IUCN (World Conservation Union) classifies this species as “ Least Concern ” .
