Amjad Farooqi

Amjad Farooqi (aka Amjad Hussain ; * 1974 ; † September 26, 2004 in Nawabshah , Sindh Province ) was a Pakistani terrorist .

Farooqi was one of the most wanted extremists in Pakistan. He is believed to have been involved in two failed attacks on President Pervez Musharraf in December 2003 . He is also believed to have been involved in the January 2002 kidnapping and murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl ( Wall Street Journal ).

Farooqui grew up in Toba Tek Singh in the Punjab Province and joined the militant group Harkat ul-Jihad-i-Islami as a youth . In 1992 the group sent him to Afghanistan for weapons and combat training . Together with the Taliban , he fought against the rival Northern Alliance . In 1996 he got in touch with Osama bin Laden and acquired the title of Ustad (German master ) in an Al-Qaida training camp near Kabul .

He was in close contact with Khalid Sheikh Mohammad , the number three in the al-Qaida hierarchy and suspected mastermind of the attacks of September 11, 2001 . He provided the kidnappers Daniel Pearls on the outskirts of the Pakistani city of Karachi with all the necessary materials.

Farooqi was killed by Pakistani security forces in a two-hour shooting. He had a bounty of 20 million rupees ( $ 340,000 ) on his head.
