particularities |
The Ammelshainer See (also Moritzsee ) is a former gravel pit near Naunhof in the Leipzig district that was needed for the construction of the motorway and which was flooded.
Description and location
The lake belongs to the three Naunhofer lakes with the Naunhofer See (also Grillensee ) and the Albrechtshainer See . It is located in the Leipziger Neuseenland , a network of bathing lakes, some of which are still being created and which are being created from open-cast mine holes. Because of its close proximity to the A 14 (junction 29, Naunhof), the lake is also called the Ammelshain motorway lake .
The Ammelshainer See has an area of 53 hectares with an average depth of three and a half meters. In 2013 the ADAC tested 41 bodies of water in Germany for bathing quality and declared Lake Ammelshain to be the test winner with the rating "Very Good".
At the lake there are several swimming areas, a surfing area, a volleyball field and a large sunbathing area.
Others
The Ammelshainer See is the venue for the annual Waterbeats music festival .
