Amnatos ( Greek Αμνάτος ( f. Sg. )) Is a village and a local community in the municipality of Arkadi in the municipality of Rethymno on the Greek Mediterranean island of Crete . Due to the state of preservation of Venetian houses, their historical and architectural value and the appearance of the village, the village of Amnatos is listed.
location
Amnatos is about 14 kilometers southeast of Rethymno at an altitude of 320 meters. In addition to the village itself, the locality includes Kapsaliana (Καψαλιανά) 800 meters northeast, Pikris (Πίκρης) about 1.6 kilometers northeast and the Arkadi monastery 2.8 kilometers south.
history
The earliest mention of Amnato comes from the Venetian period . During the Ottoman period , the place was initially inhabited by Orthodox Christians and Muslims.
The rural community of Amnatos (Κοινότητα Αμνάτου Kinotita Amnatou ) was created in 1927 through the spin-off of four villages and the Arkadi monastery from the then rural community of Kyrianna . Apart from minor changes, the rural community lasted until the implementation of the municipal reform under the Kapodistrias program in 1997. Together with eleven other rural communities, the merger took place to form the municipality of Arkadi (Δήμος Αρκαδίου). As part of the administrative reform in 2010 , this was incorporated into the municipality of Rethymno , since then Amnatos has had the status of a locality (Τοπική Κοινότητα Topiki Kinotita ).
