As Cupid is known in archeology multiple representations of Cupid Eros as decoration or ornament on trays or containers . In analogy to Cupid , the Roman equivalent of Eros, we speak in Roman art also of cupids or Amorinen .

As an image for heavenly love, the naked boys initially appear in Christian art , for example as fishermen of men in the mosaics of Aquileia or as grape pickers on Helen's coffin in the Vatican Museums . Another example of early Christian depiction is the Noah sarcophagus in Trier, in which Noah, who is just greeting the returning dove, is flanked by two erotes weaving garlands of flowers. In the baroque era they return as ubiquitous putti .
