Ampelozizyphus amazonicus is a kind from the family of the cross thorn plants (Rhamnaceae) and the only member of the genus Ampelozizyphus and the tribe Ampelozizypheae. It is native to the Brazilian Amazon.

description

Ampelozizyphus amazonicus are unreinforced, climbing plants, but tendrils are missing. The leaves are alternate and two-line to each other.

The flowers are either in axillary, grouped cymes or form a panicle from several cymes . The flower cup is twisted short, the ring-shaped disc is thick. Unlike many genera of the family , petals are present, they are dome-shaped. The ovary is semi-subordinate and triple. The fruits are explosion fruits, have stipules and are three-sided, the three seeds per fruit lack a nutrient tissue.

Distribution and systematics

Ampelozizyphus amazonicus is only found in the Brazilian Amazon. Species and genus were first described by Adolpho Ducke in 1935 . Within the Buckthorn family is Ampelozizyphus amazonicus in the first 2000 by James Edward Richardson erected tribe Ampelozizypheae filed, the tribe is monotypic .
