The Amphibious quick reaction brigade ( 水陸機動団 , suiriku Kido-dan , English: Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade) is an amphibious combat unit of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces and was put into service on April 8 2018th The commander is Major General Shinichi Aoki.

It is the first combat unit for amphibious warfare modeled on the US Marines and the first after the Second World War with the former Japanese Marines .

The brigade with around 2,100 soldiers is deployed in the port city of Sasebo in the southwestern prefecture of Nagasaki and is subordinate to the ground self-defense forces . It was drawn up from the former Western Army Infantry Regiment (now renamed "1st Amphibious Rapid Deployment Regiment "). The main task of the rapid deployment brigade is to defend the remote south-western islands of Japan, the Nansei Islands, for example against attacks by the People's Republic of China .
