The Amphitheater Lake is a meltwater lake in East Antarctic Enderbyland . It is located in the western part of the Amphitheater Peaks in the Nye Mountains . The lake is almost completely enclosed by cliffs and ice cliffs, which give it the eponymous appearance of an amphitheater . At the western end it has a drain to the Rayner Glacier .
Aerial photographs of the lake were taken in 1956 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . An airborne unit from this series of expeditions visited the lake in 1958. It was given the descriptive name by the Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA).
