Benneckenstein office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Benneckenstein office was a judicial and administrative district in the Schwarzburg-Rudolstädter Unterherrschaft with its seat in Benneckenstein .

The office comprised only the quarter share that Schwarzburg owned in Benneckenstein. Benneckenstein was divided between the two lines of the Counts of Honstein-Klettenburg and Hohnstein-Heringen in 1373. In 1424 the Schwarzburg counts of the Schwarzburg-Blankenburg line acquired the Heringian half. In 1574 ownership passed to Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and in 1584 it fell to Schwarzburg-Frankenhausen. In 1599 the half was divided again. Now Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt each owned a quarter.

In 1648 the Electorate of Brandenburg acquired the Klettenburg half, in 1676 the Sondershausen quarter and finally in 1741 the Rudolstadt part.
